Sky Watch Friday - Guess what this building is...and win!
22 Sept 08
This beautiful building has piqued my curiousity ever since I first noticed it. For years, I have wondered what its purpose is as it does appear like a castle to me. It stood so grand and picturesque in front of a river which can be seen as the tram we board home passes by.
Last Monday, I finally had the chance to go there...I was with the little boy and we walk this area to the station to board the tram going to the city center. Surprisingly this part of the sky was lighter than the other...lol, the other side spells rain!
After taking photos I was still clueless as to what building this is and what purpose does it serve, the only thing I knew is the address, Roßauer Lände 1...the u4 station Roßauer Lände is just near.
You are invited to guess; for what this building is purposed for, tomorrow I will reveal what it is and the one who guesses wins a postcard! (Oh my, Photo Cache, I always forget to bring yours to the post office...my apologies. Tomorrow I will bring it! I had no photos of the sweets in the bakery since I might told off not to photograph them...)
(P.S.: Merisi and Maria and other Vienna bloggers please understand you will be exempted :P )

nice photo of the sky and building
ReplyDeleteWOW! Nice shot and sky there:) Mine is posted HERE too. Happy SWF!~
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Is it's purpose just to stand there and look pretty? Probably not, so I'll guess it as a medical facility--hospital or retirement nursing center?
ReplyDeleteI guess I have to take myself out of the competition on this one. ;-)
ReplyDeleteIt is a very interesting building, though.
It looks like some sort of government office... am I close? It is beautiful. Glad you finally solved the mystery!
ReplyDeleteThat is a striking building. Beautiful shots. Carver's Photoblog
ReplyDeleteI appreciate the photos but am afraid I have no idea what they show.
ReplyDeleteHeimvorteil:
ReplyDeleteRossauerkaserne :)
Beautiful architecture again. And the clouds are fantastic too. I think this is a university or any academic institution.
ReplyDeleteIt is an interesting building and makes a nice skywatch entry.
ReplyDeleteI think the building is a water treatment plant, because I saw one that looks similar. Good a guess as any, right?
I loved your photos.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful picture!
ReplyDeleteThis was a casern and now the federal ministry of national defense. ;-)
Great shots, beautiful building.
ReplyDeleteIs it a university? Pretty building and nice sky too.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful view and building.
ReplyDeleteOh, it is a neat looking building. A fancy building like that in Boston might be a hospital. But if it were a hospital, there would be people rushing about. I will guess an insurance building. Why? Because when Kafka worked in Prague I believed he worked in insurance, and Vienna isn't too far from Prague, right? (basically, I got no clue, but I like taking wild guesses)
ReplyDeleteI realy an't imagine what it is ... but both photos are great!
ReplyDeletenice SWF entries! Love the crisp and warm shot! btw, if you haven't visited my SWF entry, it's on www.myinnerye.com. Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteIts a prison! Am I the winner? Jasmin
ReplyDeleteIs it the Museum for Contemporary Art (MAK)? Lovely photo. Happy SWF
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat building and it does have a castle look. Thanks for sharing a great SWF contest.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo. The sky is so blue and the building is awesome looking. Can't wait to see what it is!!
ReplyDeleteDon't laugh, but then again why not? Laughter
ReplyDeleteis good for the sould. To me it looks like a fire station , although a little bigger than I would have expected, very similar to one in Ballarat, Australia not Austria. That town is so much smaller than Vienna, that could account for the difference in size.
Nice shots.
Nice Photo. Love the sky as the background with the building. Really cool
ReplyDeleteI've got no idea what's that building used for but one thing I know is that it's a beautiful capture of it together with the sky :)
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's a building for Austrian Armed Forces? Or condos?
ReplyDeletehmmmm, I guess I am not allowed either :)! but let me just say it's a wonderful building, and you do a great job in photographing it!
ReplyDeleteVery nice building, you made me curious.
ReplyDeleteI want to say it is a college. I don't know! But it is very grand, and so is the sky.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful building but I am afraid I can't identify it. I have visited Vienna twice and loved it's elegance!
ReplyDeletenice building in front of that sky
ReplyDeleteI don't know what it is, but it is sure beautiful! Happy Skywatch :)
ReplyDeleteI'm not even going to try to guess, lol! Whatever it is though, it is a grand-looking building. I love the fancy top of the towers especially.
ReplyDeleteHello Gizelle! This building could be the seat of a Ministry or something like that.
ReplyDeleteYour photographs are very nice.
Enjoy Sky Watch! :)
Beautiful photos of a magnificent building.
ReplyDeleteBelieve it or not, I have no clue. But, it looks like an arsenal, so I'm going to guess it's a military facility. Maybe a military academy??
ReplyDeleteHm. I guess no postcard for me, eh? :-(
i simply have no idea.
ReplyDeleteIt's a lovely building and probably used for something mundane like apartments! That's my guess.
