As I was taking my kids to school, I looked back to the days when I was a student. I remembered cramming during examination week and staying up late at night to work on school projects. I had to rely on my own. I was too embarrassed to ask help from my parents. Suddenly, I imagined my eldest kid, slightly older than she is now, asking for my help on her school project. I tried to tell her that she should work on it by herself, but when I saw what she was supposed to research, I was stunned! She was supposed to write an essay about mesenchymal stem cells. These are cells reaped from bone marrow and was touted as the key to organ regeneration. But instead, scientists found out that these are innately potent antidotes for a growing list of ailments. Before my brain bled, I pinched myself and was brought back to reality. Then I heaved a sigh of relief.
I’m thankful for the many technological advances from which I benefit greatly. State-of-the-art cameras make it possible for me to pursue my hobby as a photographer. High-tech gadgets and mobile phones let me be in the loop constantly. Even when I walk the streets of Vienna, I can get in touch with friends who live miles away from me. However, these advances also made scientific researches even more complicated and bordering towards impossible. Imagine using CHO cell media in scientific procedures where the aim is to provide standardized reagents and tools for all areas of stem cell research. Do you know what CHO stands for? It is an acronym for Chinese hamster ovary. Now that’s technology for you.
“Travel does what good novelists also do to the life of everyday, placing it like a picture in a frame or a gem in its setting, so that the intrinsic qualities are made more clear. Travel does this with the very stuff that everyday life is made of, giving to it the sharp contour and meaning of art.” – Freya Stark

Europeans take their luxury pretty seriously. I mean, look at this; you don’t even have to go outside to take a picture of something worth getting a memory of. I’m curious as to whether all those shiny parts in the door and all over the walls are actually gold or just some other sort of reflective material; I don’t think I’d be surprised no matter what turned up here. This is an image of the inside of Chateau de Villette; originally built in the 17th century, it’s got 185 acres of land and its own private chapel, but that’s probably not the way you’ll know it best. No, this estate, which is actually for rent if you’re willing to pay more than seven thousand Euros a night, is the very same location featured in the film version of The Da Vinci Code. Who says you can’t go to where the filming takes place?
Protip: It has fifteen bedrooms. Bring along a whole bunch of friends to split the payment, and you might actually be able to bring it down to a reasonable price; two or three hundred Euros a night isn’t bad for this kind of luxury even among the nicest villas for rent, and that’s probably the only way you’ll ever be able to afford it. I mean, at this price, it’s practically an industry all by itself.
I’m going to assume this is some kind of language-based joke. What you’re looking at here is the lovely lawn, fabulous buildings, and surrounding forest area of Villa Borgois. This is an Italy villa whose name is disturbingly similar to bourgeois… or, in other words, the social middle class. This is made worse by the fact that it was built by Grand Duke Ferdinando I de' Medici as one of twelve hunting lodges, and it’s a lot fancier on the inside than it seems from here. Take a look.
This is the inside of Villa Bourgeos… I mean, Borgois. If this is middle class, I’d love to see what would be suitable for the Queen of England. Just out of curiosity, you know? I mean, you could probably buy a house with just the things in this image…

Imagine my dismay when after visiting the Belvedere Gardens again last spring, my memory card was not cooperating. I thought it was toast as I have tried copying files from the camera straight to the PC...I tried using 3 different card readers to no avail.
Luckily techie-hubby is around, he knows how to recover lost files from the PC's bin but I think this time, having lost them from a memory card it ain't possible. He has a lot of software that can recover files that were erased or corrupted. We managed to recover some but not all....I say I'm stilly happy that I can now post this tulip photo.

By accident or not, this bike hangs down from the rail, a common "parking" for bikes around the city.
Beauty Pageant results always get a reaction of extremes from different nations and from individuals. We forget the cliche Beauty is in the eye of the beholder holds so true and that beauty goes beyond skin deep. Oh! Lopes' skin is in itself beautiful already!
I was a bit laughing...alright, really laughing hard when I saw this from the newspaper. It says Our Ladies are more beautiful than the "Miss Universe" - presumptuous or some sort of spoof, those who are bitter would say that. What's even more hilarious about this newspaper "insert" is readers are asked to send a photo of their neighbor, sister or friend that they find more beautiful to win a candle-light dinner for two.
And by the way, Austria didn't send in a delegate...let alone won a crown yet.

So how did you or your country took the results? That's interesting to know.
I unearthed a 2008 archive folder of the Belvedere Palace which I also featured for a short time that year. I think I wasn't able to show everything that needs to be shown back then. This is the gate that leads to the back of the palace. Two lions guarding a plaque and crown just over the top of the black rails designed intricately. A closer look at the lion will show that it is smiling rather than growling. :D
