Currywurst is a popular and iconic street food in Berlin, and its fame can be attributed to several factors:

  1. Historical Origins: Currywurst has deep roots in post-war Berlin. It is believed to have been invented in 1949 by Herta Heuwer, a Berliner who created the dish by combining ketchup and curry powder with grilled and sliced sausages. This simple yet flavorful dish quickly gained popularity and became a staple in the city's culinary scene.

  2. Affordability and Accessibility: Currywurst is a relatively inexpensive and accessible fast food option. Its affordability made it a favorite among Berliners, and its quick preparation and portability contributed to its widespread popularity as a street food.

  3. Cultural Significance: Over the years, currywurst has become a cultural symbol of Berlin. It reflects the city's history, resilience, and the spirit of innovation, as it emerged in the post-war era when resources were scarce. The dish's ability to adapt to the available ingredients and its humble origins resonate with Berlin's working-class culture.

Imagine my surprise seeing this kiosk as I went up to the streets from the city center's train station. Might as well see how it fares with the Berliner counterpart. :)

Dandelion flowers, with their vibrant yellow hues, may not be as visually appealing as other flowers but they hold significance in various cultural contexts. And when together, they form a pretty mantel of yellow through green fields.

Also, dandelion tea, made from the flowers and leaves of the dandelion plant, is gaining popularity for its potential health benefits. Here are some of the advantages associated with dandelion tea:

  1. Rich in Nutrients: Dandelion tea is a good source of vitamins and minerals, including vitamin A, vitamin C, potassium, and iron. These nutrients play essential roles in supporting various bodily functions, such as immune function and red blood cell formation.

  2. Potential Diuretic Effect: Dandelion tea has diuretic properties, meaning it may increase urine production. This can be beneficial for individuals looking to reduce water weight or manage conditions like mild fluid retention.

  3. Liver Health: Some studies suggest that dandelion may have a protective effect on the liver. It may support liver function by promoting the elimination of toxins and waste products from the body.

  4. Antioxidant Properties: Dandelion contains antioxidants that help neutralize free radicals in the body. Antioxidants play a role in reducing oxidative stress and inflammation, which are associated with various chronic diseases.

We walked this path for 5 years or so, when my two older kids were in grade school.

We had many memories (and photos) of the seasons spent in this area.

(^By Notting Hill Gate)

I enjoy both travel and photography. Although I haven’t been all-over the world, I try to document my journey and share it around. Here, my current hometown Vienna, a city I come to love not just for its intrinsic beauty but its overall aura of good vibes, I share bits and pieces of what to see and enjoy. -Marie Gizelle
