Vienna Daily

One Viennese photo a day.

facebook google twitter tumblr instagram linkedin

Remember our fun family day out at the Kindrerauf...held at the Stadion two weeks ago? My daughter participated in the category 8-9 year-old race which we didn't know was actually a 700 meter dash! She finished the race well and received her medal for doing so.

Before the actual race started we were going around the lot as the kids participate in different kinds of games, drawing activities and loot-bagging events.

One they couldn't resist would be bubble blowing!

I (heart?) earth

...and everything that comes with it. Still from the Kindermuseum set of photos, the most appropriate meme of course to post these...related to water! Here (click) are some more photos from the museum.

The I (tree/heart?) Earth can be seen in the big water mill the kids played with...all foggy because of the water in it. The one below is what the kids called a big water bag and which they can sit on as they listen to the guide explain all about water.

I love to draw. As a kid, drawing was one of the three things I enjoy at school (the other two would be English and Sports - volleyball, basketball, chess -?-). I remember too that I'm ok with an HB pen and I'd draw things I like. I once attempted Van Gogh's Irises and it was one of the best watercolor I had. Then, I outgrew the hobby, I started to like reading and writing more and I ended up not drawing or painting but writing about paintings and painters. Well, I enjoy that part too and kept in touch with my favorite painters who used to be students but are now professionals in their field...

The trip to the Kindermuseum was one of the many that I had planned to do but never happened. I've listed down the museums I plan to visit with the kids and so far, only two have been in fruition :D Come October would be the Lange Nacht der Museen, an annual event where enthusiasts can visit the Museums in the city for a discounted price. Hopefully I'd be able to do it this time.

So to the photos, the kids can draw something related to water or things that they relate to water in the Museum --- See the drawing tent here.

One that impressed me was the drawing below the two in this photo, not just because it was nicely done but because of the message it relays.

Fortunately for some us, water is as simple as turning on the faucet. There, clean and fresh and available whenever we need it. This is of course not the case for other parts of the world.

Despite "its apparent" abundance - even if there is more water on the earth's surface than there is land - it should not be wasted. Teaching our children to value, respect, and, above all, not waste water, is an important - and ecologically sound - lesson that should be taught from an early age! This is one of the goals of this installation at the Kindermuseum theme H20 or in lay man's term, water.

My daughter's class went there, with me and other moms chaperone. :)

From http://www.ecofriendlykids.co.uk/Water.html:

We should all be looking at ways to save water around the home and the simplest and probably the most obvious is to turn the tap off when we don’t need it! How many of us routinely leave the taps running when we clean our teeth? Or fill the bath right up to the top for a measly five minute soak?! Or let the kitchen sink over flow when we dash of to answer the phone or the front door? As fun as it is to use the garden hose for water fights in the hot weather, it is also extremely wasteful!

In this photo you'd see my daughter (in pink) reaching onto something. That would be her popsicle sticks-boat. The kids were allowed to play with them on this water installation---furnitures put up to create a continuous flow of water and ends up on a literal water bed... The water then returns to it's source afterwards.

More photos here.

Swarovski is almost synonymous to Austria...When one mentions Austria, Swarovski is easily associated with it like Mozart and Strauß...or the sausage.

There are two big Swarovski stores at the city center, one is this with a changing installation that are always done equally attractive as the previous ones.

Tyrol, Austria, is the home of the luxury brand name for the range of precision-cut lead crystal glass Swarovksi.

Swarovski was patented in 1892 by Daniel Swarovski, himself born into a family of glass cutter Austrian monarchs. It was then known as K.S. &Co.

The crystals range from miniatures to big statues, jewelry, couture, home decor and chandeliers and more.

Originally, the Swarovski logo was an Edelweiss flower. It was in 1988 when it was changed to the Swan.

The Do&Co Hotel and resto is one of the finest in the city. Situated opposite St.Stephen's cathedral, it would always reflect the tower and parts of the church.

(^By Notting Hill Gate)

I enjoy both travel and photography. Although I haven’t been all-over the world, I try to document my journey and share it around. Here, my current hometown Vienna, a city I come to love not just for its intrinsic beauty but its overall aura of good vibes, I share bits and pieces of what to see and enjoy. -Marie Gizelle
