Vienna Daily

One Viennese photo a day.

facebook google twitter tumblr instagram linkedin
field and sky

After the rain, the clouds are brighter and fuller, at times though, pity that I do not have my camera with me so this one is from my phone camera.

I enjoy scenes of the city outskirts, no buildings to see, no vehicles, Natur pur! This is from my daughter's school at the far end of Vienna. :)

Scenic Sunday

Btw, please help me with this video entry...thanks!

Everytime we go on long travels we see to it that we bring some form of entertainment like game cards, memory cards, psps and whatever else handy. At home, hubby also makes sure he is up to date with the latest game consoles. With the addition of new consoles (wii, xbox), he has been buying lots of other gadgets and other accessories or replacement parts.

Thanks to online stores, products such as controllers, wii power adapter, memory cards and even games are readily available. GameBay.com is a one-stop shop for all gaming needs. The site gives big discounts and free shipping too! A good option to make your "spinning" console work again because of defective parts or accessories than having it fixed then pay so much.

Don't you love shopping at Duty Free (http://www.sydneyairportshopping.syddutyfree.com/affiliate/SACL)  shops? I do. Even as a child when my dad would bring us there, it would always be a pleasant visit. Now that I get to travel at times, I always see to it that we get to visit Duty Free shops. Not only is it cheaper, the products are bigger than what is sold in the 'street market.'

So how convenient is it now that you can pre-order online all your choices of perfume, gadgets, sunglasses and pick them up upon arrival/departure at the Sydney Airport in New South Wales Australia? It means that if you have a very short pause to your next flight from Sydney, you just pick up your loot and you're good to go. What's more exciting than getting discounts for buying what you love best at the best prices? This is truly shopping at its best!

Sentiments over high school graduation is certainly much dramatic compared to grade school or college. This is as true as one of the famous Philippine song goes "high school life - every memory is wonderful." It was when I developed close bonds with friends to whom I am still in contact with.

After high school my best friend and I finished our corresponding degrees in the same university. During which I kept in close touch to a few of my high school friends. We would have get togethers once in a while. It was always fun to hear stories of old days when we were younger and full of dreams and somehow, we looked back on our stupidity too. :D

I got married then and left for Vienna and kept communicating with them, thanks to email and networking websites, which apparently most of us are members of. We get to know the whereabouts of each other and sometimes make fun of the fond memories we had back then. Many of us have our own lives now...either married and with kids, a pair who got married was even a surprise for us! I have been travelling a little, seeing places that I long wanted to see but coming home and spending time chatting with my friends is a very welcome option. Though emails and all that are fine, I would be happy seeing my high school classmates once again. I just hope the time comes that I would be there to attend all our high school reunions. I guess being too far takes its toll at times, that is homesickness.

When we go on vacation we see to it that we spend the best time and well the worth of our money even for as short as 3 days or even a whole month. Staying in a hotel or an apartment does have advantages and disadvantages, we weight first which would be the most convenient and worth to spend on.

This is not different in choosing a house or an apartment for the family to live, raise kids and grow old into.

Consider neighborhood safety, climate, accessibility, cleanliness and of course the availability of employment.

Take, Baltimore (Maryland) which lies within the humid subtropical climate zone, the city lies in between two peculiar physical features that protect it from extreme weather and account for the relatively tempered seasons. The Appalachian Mountains and the Delmarva Peninsula.
Baltimore used to be an industrial town, with an economic base focused on steel processing, shipping, auto manufacturing, and transportation but now has a modern service economy making the city grow as financial, business, and health service base for the southern Mid-Atlantic region. the John Hopkins Hospital, which will serve as the center of a new biotechnology park giving Baltimore a regard for being one of the world's most important repositories of medical knowledge.
Avalon communities provide top if not the best Baltimore apartments with emphasis on hardwood floors, spiral staircases and /or spacious kitchens and thoughtfully designed floorplans. At 950$ a month (1 bedroom) this is the most reasonable price you could pay for high class apartments located strategically near to amenities, colleges, shopping and cultural entertainment.

Looking back, there was little motivation for buying a ‘green’ or hybrid car. Such environmentally friendly vehicles struggled for attention and buyers compared to the 'mainstream' cars. Perhaps, only those with genuine concern about the environment are willing to do a switch.

But preferences has changed a lot. Nowadays, many are opting for the eco-friendly vehicles in connection with global warming and all the attempts in saving the environment.

With the change in consumer behaviour, car insurance companies have also responded by offering ‘eco-friendly’ policies. Car insurance costs for green cars are actually more expensive since they have higher maintenance costs. But car insurance sees that an eco-friendly motorist is unlikely to travel at faster speeds, thus minimizing the carbon dioxide pumped into the atmosphere.

Eco friendly car insurance also offers carbon offsetting. It involves calculating your emissions and purchasing an equal (or a percentage of, depending on the agreement) number of `carbon credits`. These are carbon reduction projects around the world such as replenishing the rainforest or building wind farms.

IBuyEco is one of those companies providing Green car insurance. At IBuyEco, all you need to do is provide information about your car use, this will be used to produce a car insurance quote which also enables them to calculate CO2 emissions. The money paid to offset the CO2 emissions produced by annual driving goes to purchase carbon credits from a portfolio of projects mentioned above.

It is good to see that not only individuals but insurance companies have been moved to consider environmental issues thus encouraging motorists to go green.

It is but natural to have merriment. People sing, dance, laugh, eat and drink too! Unfortunately, a handful of unwanted circumstances could lead to accidents...one of this would be to drive after drinking. Driving under the influence (of alcohol or drugs) is a criminal offense to most countries. Aside from injury to self and to others, driving under the influence can result in loss of reputation, expensive fines, required attendance at alcohol-education classes, suspension or revocation of driver’s license, increase in or cancellation of auto insurance, placement of an ignition interlock device in a car, and, in some cases, jail or prison. If in cases that a driver injures another, medical expenses should also be shouldered. And when charged with DUI while on vacation, will surely ruin all the fond memories.

The best solution to avoid all these of course is to always follow the cliche "don't drink and drive." In cases of DUI though there are Defense lawyers that an accused can hire to reduce if not dismiss the charges. Take the Los Angeles DUI Drunk Driving Attorneys for one, they are dedicated to protect the rights, and fight on behalf of accused DUI drivers to avoid a serious criminal conviction appearing on their record.

They offer services in English, Spanish, Russian, Armenian, Farsi and Hebrew.

How amazing would it be to see this crab down ...under the sea than behind the glasses of an aquarium?

Hubby and I are so fond of fishes and anything under the sea (not just as food). Back when there's only the two of us, we had dog-faced puffer fishes and other rare saltwater fishes at home. When we moved and the kids grew up a little we bought a small tank and filled it with cichlids, some years more and we bought a bigger one...it has been 3 years now since we bought a silver arowana.

Following our fondness with underwater creatures, we enjoy snorkelling when possible. We may not see fish rarities from shallow water but it is still enjoyable to see the fishes in their natural environment. Of course, if given the chance, I'd love to go scuba diving too! Living in a country with no nearby ocean to boast of could be difficult in finding those who have the initiative to offer scuba diving lessons around here.

As scuba diving continues to rise in popularity, many an institution or group of enthusiasts have been bringing it to those who want to experience it firsthand. Take Ultimate Dive and Travel for example, they offer scuba diving lessons in Scottsdale, Arizona focused on providing the safest scuba diving program complete with diving equipment and some of the best round trips for everyone.

Joining short-term diving classes such as thise will give you a practical experience in open water and pool, an certification will also be given along with learning emergency first responce and dive control. There would also be rescue and stress management. Scuba diving lessons in Arizona are held using their cutting-edge technology. With names like Scubapro®, Oceanic®, and Atomic, divers are assured to receive the very best equipment at affordable prices! Now, if there something like this in my area...I'd be glad to register!

The city of Venice is art itself, the bridges are an artist's inspiration. In its street are lots of painting sold by the locals. Watercolor, charcoal and simple pencil medium are used for their art. The theme of course is no more than water, bridges, gondolas and the colorful buildings that characterizes Venice.

These are my share of Venetian Art...
