silver

September 2007, 1st district

One of the body-painted entertainers at the 1st district. This guy will not move unless you drop him a coin...if you do, he would either wink or bow down. Quite interesting people who can withstand the weather be it cold or warm. They are really like stone statues in the middle of the street! Below are impersonators of Mozart and Charlie Chaplin, they move and greet people unlike the Silverman.

street musicians

8 August, 2007; 1st District

On Sundays at the city center, tourists and locals abound. Most shops in this district are open as opposed to all closed- shops in other districts. The locals provide certain entertainment to the gathering crowd by their music, painting, or body paint gimmicks. Here is a group of musicians taking a rest at one of the public benches. Notice the opened case for their instruments? Its used as donation box, I give some coins if I like the music.

lonely benches

24 December 2007; Wien, Floridsdorf

Not only are the benches lonely, the coldness surrounding them gives this photo a very lonely aura. But that is the beauty of the seasons. Each having a unique emotion and distinct identity making us know which of them is best for us. I feel lonely whenever winter comes but when the first flakes of snow started filling up our balcony in the morning, there is always a feeling of excitement...

frozen lake

24 December 07; Wien Floridsdorf

When it gets below 0° this can happen, a frozen lake. Two years ago, the bigger part of the lake froze and people were allowed to skate on it- for free! During this time though, only the ducks and the swans remain and tolerated the cold feel on their feet.

While waiting for Tram 31

August 12, 07; Wien

After taking photos at the 1st district, hubby and I and the kids decided to take the tram instead of the train. This shot was taken around 9pm but since it was summer the blue sky was still visible.

Eck building

Corner Building

August 25, 2007; Getreidemarkt, Wien

I want to photograph higher buildings...cityscapes, in the morning and at night. However, time and companion (again) won't let me. So, this is it for the meantime...I'd definitely have my chance for cityscapes later!

Colored

'Colored'

August 22,2004; Donauinsel, Vienna

Now that's really a contrast between the photo category and the photo title. Chiaroscuro, an art term for contrasts between light and dark...for some reason the word has always appeared 'black and white' in my head...so I posted this photo today with a title literally opposite chiaroscuro. =)

I have kept this photo and has included it in almost all my online photo folders... I like photographing kids, I miss black and white photography, I like talking with Africans: they are so warm a people! The parents of these kids are close aquaintances of mine and we would sit down and talk about how fast the kids grow whenever we bump into each other. This photo is more than 3 years old!

I do not mean to offend anyone with the title, but I have used this title in reference to a poem whose author is unknown.

Dear white fella

Couple things you should know
When I born, I black
When I grow up,I black
When I go in sun, I black
When I cold, I black
When I scared, I black
When I sick, I black
And when I die, I still black.

You white fella
When you born, you pink
When you grow up, you white
When you go in sun, you red
When you cold, you blue
When you scared, you yellow
When you sick, you green
And when you die, you grey.

And you have the cheek to call me colored?

Diabolo performer
October 2007; 1st District, Vienna

It was relatively a cold day but this street performer didn't mind showing off his chest (haha) and diabolo skills. Diabolo is a variation of the Chinese Yoyo, better to say Western version of it.

Compared to our traditional yoyo, the bodies of the diabolo are bigger and are not attached to the string so the player can freely throw the diabolo off. (More on yoyos soon).

I am a Filipino living in Vienna and simply enjoying it. I was a photographer and a writer by profession. I have been in the city since 2002 and had been practicing my skills so as not to get 'rusty.' Having 3 kids in tow, I only do home work nowadays. I aim to somewhat promote the city of Vienna as a wonderful tourist destination.

Most of the times I feature urbanscapes, but I love showing the unseen scenery around Vienna too. Please enjoy sightseeing around. Should you want to contact me, please leave a comment, or a c-box message or by emailing me at mirage2g@gmail.com.

Suggestions are always welcome.

Thank you,

Chess pieces
January 5, 08Home

Down memory lane-I am thankful for our P.E. teachers back in grade school...I could never forget coz it was always fun! Chess (and dama)were introduced to us and they eventually became my favorite (board)games! I even won a championship back then and in highschool played also for the Interschool competition. Chess, anyone?

Yellow snail (with) a ladybird.

October 2, 2007; Wien

“By perseverance the snail reached the ark.” -Charles H. Spurgeon

Not that these two are in a race, they just happen to be on the same leaf at the same time. lol.

Hmmm...I wonder how did I persevere to have finally enter the ark? (Genesis 7:16; Revelation 18:4)

I enjoy both travel and photography. Although I haven’t been all-over the world, I try to document my journey and share it around. Here, my current hometown Vienna, a city I come to love not just for its intrinsic beauty but its overall aura of good vibes, I share bits and pieces of what to see and enjoy. -Marie Gizelle
