The snow didn't stay long.

“You wake up on a winter morning and pull up the shade, and what lay there the evening before is no longer there--the sodden gray yard, the dog droppings, the tire tracks in the frozen mud, the broken lawn chair you forgot to take in last fall. All this has disappeared overnight, and what you look out on is not the snow of Narnia but the snow of home, which is no less shimmering and white as it falls. The earth is covered with it, and it is falling still in silence so deep that you can hear its silence. It is snow to be shoveled, to make driving even worse than usual, snow to be joked about and cursed at, but unless the child in you is entirely dead, it is snow, too, that can make the heart beat faster when it catches you by surprise that way, before your defenses are up. It is snow that can awaken memories of things more wonderful than anything you ever knew or dreamed.”

You slept last night in a particular world, you wake up the next morning in another, that's the beauty of snowfall.

I was walking near our previous apartment when I passed by this Viennese pub. It's located near one of the main train stations, Westbahnhof. I never got the chance to dine there when we were living near there. Perhaps, I've often see men dining (and beers) :D but it is a  traditional pub that serves Viennese cuisine, definitely worth a try.

Another pavement showing the new slabs of stones around the city. This street goes to the Mozarthaus, the one where he lived in when he was an established composer and musician (birth house is in Salzburg).

The photo posted yesterday was taken from the 57th floor of this black building, the DC Tower (Donau City). While this photo was taken when we were in the middle of the Danube river, in a small electric boat...it was on July 8, 2017...a day after a friend's wedding ceremony. The strip of buildings (can you spot umbrellas?) by the bank are either bars, restaurants and such for the enjoyment of visitors.

The span of the Danube River from the Donauinsel station. The Danube has had excavations within its bank to divert water to prevent water from overflowing through the nearby districts. This resulted to forming 'islets' which shows luscious greenery when viewed from above.

I've always been confused at the location of the entrance of this grand building, but no matter which side you look at it, it's always a beautiful piece.

*Late post.* One from summer, where you can just chill, even though, as I remember, the grass shouldn't be stepped on. I wonder how people get to sit then without using their feet? :D

Vienna's first district is usually crowded, but I sometimes get rare moments like this.

There's been a massive reconstruction around the city's plazas...most of the walking areas look like this now.

If you've watched the movie Before Sunrise, the green roof and the stairs should be familiar. This is the Albertina building, a museum where the characters of Julie Delphy and Ethan Hawke spent some time before departing and going their separate ways. The green roof belongs to the Vienna Opera house, which can be seen from atop the Albertina's mezzanine.

Before Sunrise is one of the few movies set in Vienna, although I know for sure that is not possible to visit all the places they went to in just one day...I tried going to each of the locations, that's why. :) Oh, I mentioned that a blog post the other day, too. ^_^

One of the more famous squares in Vienna, or more like an open street where you could relax and watch people to pass time. The Schwarzenbergerplatz has a fountain installed with color-changing lights that makes it a good spot to take photos. A few steps away, you can find the Belvedere Palace and gardens. And depending on where you are going, the Akademie theatre, the Charles church and many other buildings of interest are just walking distance.

The famed cafe´from the movie Before Sunrise. I started a project some time ago - going to the places featured in the film, I've done more than half of the locations and had I not been procrastinating, I would have finished by now...Ahhh, when it becomes warmer again. :)

I've learned about the cruise ships docked at the Danube banks the past year, going around smaller circles, probably 7 cities within the rivers' stretch for a week. I enjoy going around there and watching the sky at times, never two scenes alike.

Ground's starting to turn into earth colors - yellow, orange, and brown. I prefer to call it ochre, the shade that colors most of Vienna's buildings from then to now.

fall slide

Just like that, it collapsed into fall. 🍂🍁 I could list a hundred reasons why I like autumn, but one I remember by fondly is that it teaches us to let things go...

While I like summer as much as I like gelato, I love autumn as much as I love matcha latte.

That being said, I didn't get as much of the Italian dessert all throughout the season, compared to last year...it was then when I tried every dark chocolate-flavored gelato I could find. ;) It doesn't make this summer less enjoyable though, I had my share of fun not only around Vienna but in other cities, too. And I look forward to next year with much anticipation of what's to come. (Hoping that it would be a much better situation by then.)

The weather has been cool for the past days, which ought to be, as today officially marks the first day of fall. Google is even commemorating it with a doodle.

Our cats love the view outside of the windows. It was a comfortable afternoon, when our maine coon, Minos, stayed there; waiting for birds to fly by, or just looking at the leaves swaying.

Just a reminder that it is spring, at 3°.... Lol. #aprilwetter
A post shared by Gizelle Marie (@mirage2g) on Apr 20, 2017 at 3:43am PDT
There's a German piece of poetry that children often recite when the weather turns unpredictable...and it always happens in April. In other months when this happens, we call it Aprilwetter. The poem goes as below (a close English translation is after the text.)

 ---

April, April, does not know what it wants.
At times there's rain and at times there's sunshine,
Then it's snowing again in between.
April, April, does not know what it wants.

Now see, now see how it storms again and blows.
And now, oh woe, oh woe,
There, thick snow also falls.
April, April, does not know what it wants.

Aprilwetter (das):  [Ap·ril·wet·ter]  - April weather
                                                               (changeable/volatile weather)

Vienna emerged as the most livable city for the 8th time per Mercer's 'Quality of Living' survey. And while I have been featuring a chunk of Vienna for the past 10 years (almost), it felt as though the result is not as surprising. Click here to read more....

Guest post by Jan Gavino

The year's end sets a melancholic mood. The year's beginning, just the same. Why? An icy cold winter creeps in. When one looks outside of the window, one finds an almost empty street. A lone, close-to-silhouette passerby, whose sad face stays focused on the cold and slippery pavement, is not an uncommon sight.

I enjoy both travel and photography. Although I haven’t been all-over the world, I try to document my journey and share it around. Here, my current hometown Vienna, a city I come to love not just for its intrinsic beauty but its overall aura of good vibes, I share bits and pieces of what to see and enjoy. -Marie Gizelle
