The Österreichischen Bundesbahnen, (Austrian Federal Railways) is the National Railway system of Austria. It is government owned, which is a really convenient way of travelling not just in Vienna but the whole of Austria. The ÖBB transport goods and passengers by train, tram and bus, maintain the rail infrastructure, manage the rail network among other services it offers as a holding company. The tracks of the national railway is different from the Wiener Linien which is the local train system in Vienna (more next time). Though they would at some point have the same station at one place, making the connections to travel around easier.

The above photo is the newest among the 'faces' of the passenger trains. I prefer travelling with that one as it is more convenient than the one below. Having a stroller/buggy all the time, the elevated entrance is an inconvenience compared to the one above as it is levelled to the platform.

  2. Your train system is so much better than in the US. I agree with Fenix's assessment. I'm surprised that the red train in your picture has stairs - it definitely would be difficult to access with a stroller, or anyone on crutches or a wheelchair.

its the blue one with the stairs at the entrance...the red ones provide a special seating for the ones who are physically challenged, for bicycles and strollers plus there's a wc too =D come visit us!!!

  5. That looks very sleek, and I'm sure is very efficient. I wish that we had something like that here in Memphis. I drive 15 miles to work...what a waste.

  8. Modern trains; unheard of here. Our suburban train system is in need of a major overhaul. Fortunately there is dialogue in Government now. Time will tell.

My wife travels 25 kms to work by car as she won't trust their reliability.

If you are interested in seeing ours trains, go to Adelaide in Photos and click on the 'transport' label.

  9. Hi Gordon! I think it is better to trust yourself as you said if the transportation system is not so good, but let's hope that they may soon have a new system to go.
